Old home remedies are still the “in” thing even in today’s more advanced generations. Admit it or not, some of you are a bit “reliant” on over the counter medicines and for every little pain or illness, rushing to the doctor is your first impulse. However, given that today’s economy is in the “downside”, getting to the doctor (if your case is not severe) might get you to “break the bank”. Why bother to pay large sum of money for capsule-ready drugs when you can in fact find the real treatment right in the corner of your garden?

Ginger

If you’re looking for an alternative and effective home remedy for nausea and vomiting and heartburn, try ginger! All you have to do is just eat a small portion of ginger for discomfort relieve. Fresh or pickled ginger both work.

You can also try making a ginger tea. Just put a piece of ginger in almost boiling water. Drink it when it’s warm. You can add honey if you want a soothing effect.

However, don’t worry if you don’t have honey at home. Ginger tea is still good with or without it. It can relieve the cold symptoms.

Cold Sores – Home Remedies

lemon

Cold Sores can be fixed with astringents, as can fever blisters and any other kinds of herpes sores. For that, it is considered that lemon is one of the ideal old home remedies for cold sore.

  • Just put a thin slice of lemon in the itching area.
  • Replace the slice in few hours.
  • After such, you’ll notice that itching and soreness will soon stop.

If the case involves having soreness in your face, then,

  • Just pour squeezed lemon juice in a bottle.
  • Spray it in the affected area once an hour.

If you don’t have lemon at home, you can at least try using apple cider vinegar. You can also put it in a bottle.

Just a reminder:

  • Apply these herbal home remedies before blister breaks out.
  • One more thing, never apply lemon juice or vinegar on a sore that is open.
  • Drinking warm lemon solution four times a day is best to do once cold sore appeared.
  • Prevention is better than cure, so doing this once a day, preferably in the morning is a good idea.

Leukemia- What is it?

Leukemia is a type of cancer that starts in the body’s soft tissues and bone marrows. Blood cells are particularly made in the bone marrow. Bone marrows are the ones that make the three blood components such as the RBC, WBC, and Platelets. RBC or the red blood cell carries the oxygen systemically, oxygen is important in the blood circulation- it is one component that needs by the cells inorder to live. The white blood cells are the soldiers of the body, and help it to fight infection and protect it from harmful antigens that enter it. Platelets help in healing wounds by blood clotting.

If a patient has leukemia, the bone marrow makes a lot of abnormal leukocytes or abnormal white blood cells that grows faster and never stops from growing. In time, these leukemia cells crowds out the normal cells of the blood thus leading to serious complications such as bleeding, anemia, and infection. These leukemia cells can also metastasize in the lymph nodes and other parts of the body causing pain and edema or swelling.

There are 4 types of leukemia:

  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia,
  • Acute Myelogenous Leukemia,
  • Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, and
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, and the new type Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia have been found to be mainly in children; but the most common Leukemia in children is the one called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Understanding Acne, Its Primary Causes and Herbal Ways to Treat It

Acne is a common skin disease that mostly occurs during adolescence and often goes on till the early adulthood. The skin with acne gets scaly red with whiteheads and blackheads, pimples, pinheads, nodules and even scars. This disease attacks skin with the densest of sebaceous follicles, which usually covers the face, upper cheat area and body back. Acne can be inflammatory or non-inflammatory, depending on its severity.

Mostly in adolescence when testosterone levels increase, acne pops up. But, it reduces over time and disappears in adults. If acne involves large nodules, it’s called cystic acne that may even appear on hips, groin and armpits where sweat generally gets collected. The impact of cystic acne is major and can cause the loss of self-esteem, anxiety and depression in a person. Thus, it requires an early treatment to reduce its long-term bad effects.

What Causes Acne

Acne is mostly caused due to the blockage of hair follicles in the skin. Sebaceous glands that are attached to these follicles produce an oily substance called sebum, which if in excess, mixes with dead cells of the skin and forms a plug in the follicle. Such blocked follicles can then cause a range of problems that include whiteheads, blackheads and cysts.

Acne can further be triggered due to increased testosterone levels during puberty, drugs containing androgens and corticosteroids, intake of more dairy products and foods rich in carbohydrates, overexposure to sun, and increased stress. In women, acne can also be a result of some conditions, such as periods, pregnancy, and polycystic ovary syndrome.

Symptoms of Acne

There are several indicators or symptoms of acne that include the development of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, papules (raised bumps in reddened skin areas), and nodules. Additionally, the skin might get flushed and thick. The swelling on the skin may also get inflamed and filled with pus. Acne is quite common these days and usually develops on the face, shoulders, chest or upper back.

Get to know About Breast Cancer

Breast cancer starts developing from the milk ducts that can spread in other body parts. Females are the primary ones that are affected with breast cancer although there are cases seen where men are affected too. This is the most common cancer in women.

Women from developed countries have a higher incidence than their counterparts in the developing nations of the world. Food and lifestyle habits are two contributory factors for this type of cancer.

There are two types of breast cancer:

  • Invasive breast cancer – Invasive breast cancer occurs when the cancer cell leaks from its original duct and invades a near tissue. Abnormal cells with this cancer type can metastasize in the lymph nodes and other organs like lungs and the liver. The cancer cell can also pass in the bloodstream and the lymphatic system.
  • Non- invasive breast cancer Non- invasive breast cancer remains on the inside of its original lobule or duct. This type of cell is also called pre- cancerous because they can develop to be invasive breast cancer even if it is still in its place and intact.

Symptoms

Breast Cancer

The very first symptom a woman can detect breast cancer is a lump in a part of the breast, however majority of these lumps are not malignant. All women should visit their ob-gynecologist for check- ups or assess it by themselves through self breast examination.

Other symptoms include:

  • Pain located near or in the armpits
  • Redness of the breasts’ skin
  • Nipple rashes
  • Thick breast tissues
  • Changes of the breast shape and size
  • Lumps in one of the armpits
  • Flaking, peeling, or flaking of the skin in the nipple or the breast and
